<\/a> Lake Turkana<\/strong><\/span> in Northern Kenya is the world\u2019s largest desert Lake which would \u00a0\u00a0eventually dry up like that of the Gobi Lake in Asia which has now ceased to exist. \u00a0\u00a0This unique ecosystem has made it an outstanding living open laboratory for the study of plant and animal communities according to World heritage. The Lakes\u2019 \u00a0\u00a0rich fossil finds that have allowed reconstructing the history of animal species and mankind over the past 2 million years will cease to exist by the Ethiopian water dictator Melese Zenawie. \u00a0Lake Turkana due to its unique properties in 1997 was recognized and protected as a World Heritage Site. It blood line the Omo river the home of Lucy and Ardi also pouring \u00a0\u00a0this \u00a0menaced Lake over 90% of its life giving water source. The creation of dams on Omo rivers have recently accelerated the desertification by\u00a0 causing unprecedented drought which caused the destruction of\u00a0 over 10 million people in downstream\u00a0 Kenya and the damming the Shebelle river damaged the Shebelle river farmers of Somalia. This was confirmed by the recent study study commissioned by the African Development Bank<\/span><\/strong> that the dam would likely cause a significant drop in the lake\u2019s water level, increase its salinity, and threaten the unique ecosystem for which the lake was recognized as a World Heritage Site in the first place. According to the international waters the Gibe III Dam is being built by an Italian company.\u00a0ICBC<\/strong><\/span>, a Chinese state-owned bank, has approved funding for the project, and China\u2019s\u00a0export credit agency<\/strong> is financing the transmission lines. The dam would not only have devastating impacts on the Omo River and Lake Turkana, but also on the 500,000 indigenous people who depend on the river and lake for their livelihoods. The \u00a0World Heritage Committee<\/strong><\/a>, which oversees the protection of World Heritage Sites around the globe, in its \u00a0annual meeting heard our cry\u00a0 and \u00a0decided to take action for the protection of Lake Turkana. \u00a0The two \u00a0culprit\u00a0 country Ethiopia and China \u00a0\u00a0being two of the 21 members \u00a0of the \u00a0organization \u00a0\u00a0did stop the august body to take\u00a0 the following decisive \u00a0motions against their proactive corrupting \u00a0lobbies \u00a0\u00a0:-<\/p>\n- \n
- It expressed their \u201cutmost concern\u201d about the proposed construction of the Gibe III Dam and\u00a0urged the Ethiopian government<\/strong> to \u201cimmediately halt all construction\u201d on the project.<\/li>\n
- It asked the governments of Kenya and Ethiopia to invite a monitoring mission to review the dam\u2019s impacts on Lake Turkana,<\/li>\n
- It demanded the financial institutions<\/strong> \u201cto put on hold their financial support\u201d until the Committee\u2019s next annual meeting in June<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
