Her personal best is 3:56.54 minutes for the event. Abeba is married to an Ethiopian man with Swedish citizenship<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\">[1]<\/sup>\u00a0and has lived in\u00a0Stockholm\u00a0since 2009, and in the summer of 2012 she became a Swedish citizen.<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\">[2]<\/sup>\u00a0She represents the Stockholm based club Hammarby IF. Abeba was born in\u00a0Ethiopia\u00a0and represented the country in middle-distance until December 2012, when she became eligible to represent\u00a0Sweden\u00a0in international competition. Aregawi contested her first race representing her new country at international level during the\u00a02013 European Athletics Indoor Championships, where she won the gold medal.<\/div>\n<div>Abeba emerged as an\u00a0800 metres\u00a0runner in 2009 by winning the Ethiopian title in the event ahead of three-time champion Mestawet Tadesse.<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\">[3]<\/sup>\u00a0She competed at a number of European meets after this then set a personal best of 2:01.98 minutes in\u00a0Tangiers. Her season culminated in an 800\u00a0m\u00a0bronze medal\u00a0at the\u00a02009 African Junior Athletics Championships, where she finished behind\u00a0Caster Semenya.<sup id=\"cite_ref-4\">[4]<\/sup><\/div>\n<div>She switched to the\u00a01500 metres\u00a0in the 2010 season and enjoyed success with wins at the Sollentuna Grand Prix and\u00a0KBC Night of Athletics\u00a0meetings, setting a personal best of 4:01.96 minutes at the latter race. She also ran on the\u00a02010 Diamond League\u00a0circuit for the first time, coming fourth at the\u00a0DN Galan\u00a0and seventh at the\u00a0Weltklasse Zurich. Abeba had a strong indoor season in 2011, with four straight wins in\u00a0D\u00fcsseldorf,\u00a0Gent,\u00a0Birmingham\u00a0and\u00a0Stockholm, including a personal best run of 4:01.47 minutes. However, she only made one appearance outdoors as her season was stopped due to injury.<sup id=\"cite_ref-5\">[5]<\/sup><\/div>\n<div>She emerged as one of the world’s top 1500\u00a0m runners on the\u00a02012 IAAF Diamond League\u00a0circuit. She was second to\u00a0Genzebe Dibaba\u00a0at the\u00a0Shanghai Golden Grand Prix,<sup id=\"cite_ref-6\">[6]<\/sup>\u00a0running a best of 3:59.23 minutes.
